We started this project with the excavation of 3 tonnes of soil, all removed by hand. We levelled the area out, then spread and whacked 10 tonnes of hardcore over a heavy duty membrane to give a solid base on which to build the gabion baskets.
The team then began putting together the gabion baskets - a wire mesh basket filled with stone to act as a retaining wall next to the existing fence.
After wiring the tubes for the fence posts in place, the team loaded 35m3 of baskets with over 10 tonnes of recycled stone.
We then lowered the fence posts into the tubes before fixing them into position with concrete.
After the posts had set, we attached the rails and featherboards, providing a secure perimeter to the garden and privacy from neighbouring houses.
Our clients decided to add a 4x4m sun deck to the rear corner of the garden halfway through the project.
Finally, after adding some sleeper steps, we brought in around 15 tonnes of topsoil to grade and shape the ground before laying 80m2 of turf.
